Leave a Legacy Gift

Why Legacy Giving Matters

You’ve spent your life caring about animals. A gift in your will to the New Brunswick SPCA is the most powerful way to make sure that care lives on long after you’re gone.

A legacy gift costs nothing today. But your impact lasts forever.

The animals who arrive at the NBSPCA have often survived the unimaginable. They’ve been neglected, abandoned or hurt by the people who were supposed to protect them. They arrive terrified — and they leave transformed, because donors like you made it possible.

From a dog who nearly lost his life to one who now helps heal others — this is the power of your donations.

Charlie arrived at an emergency veterinary hospital in May after being struck by a vehicle. At just six months old, he had a broken femur, tibia and fibula, as well as a dislocated hip. Because of donor support, he received multiple complex surgeries. Today, he visits patients at the Saint John Regional Hospital, bringing comfort to people in their own difficult moments.

A gift in your will means there will always be donors behind stories like Charlie’s. You become the foundation that supports future animals in need.

Types of Legacy Gifts

A bequest in your will is the most common form of legacy giving. You can leave a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the residue after other gifts are made.

A beneficiary designation makes the NBSPCA the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, RRSP, RRIF or TFSA — often the most tax-efficient way to give, with no probate fees.

A gift of real estate or other assets can also be arranged. Please contact us to discuss options.

Suggested Bequest Wording

If you choose to include the New Brunswick SPCA in your will, your lawyer may use the following language:

I give to the New Brunswick Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NBSPCA), PO Box 1412 Stn A, Fredericton, NB E3B 5E3, charitable registration number 88852 5268 RR 0001, [the sum of $____ OR ____% of the residue of my estate] to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

We recommend working with a qualified estate planning lawyer when updating or writing your will.
